Citrus Grove Cottage is a Permaculture inspired, self sufficient and off the grid private homestead located in northern Philippines. It started as a design exercise for a PDC, Permaculture Design Course on 2013.
Zones 1 to 3 is now fully established, while outer zones 4 to 5 is a never ending adventure project. Managed by a small family who left city and corporate life then decided to settle in a rural village 13hr drive from the capital city of Manila.
There are established zones, elements and structures intended to support sustainable living. It has its own kitchen and maincrop gardens, poultry and small animal system. Compost bins, aquaponic gardens, rain water harvesting system, grey water recycling, biogas digester, swales, fish ponds and hatcheries are some of its features. There are also fruit forest and reforestation activities as well as conservation efforts to acquire rare and exotic tropical fruiting and medicinal plants and trees. The property is home to more than hundred types of fruits planted around the cottage. The property produces its own electricity, water and food. It also uses electric vehicles for personal use.Playground and botanical gardens are included in our plan. Natural swimming pool and theme gardens for meditation and picnic to name a few.
We are aiming to explore the concept of Permaculture lifestyle, perhaps inspire others thru sharing our experiences and ideas. We may be considered rough types as we intentionally do and view things differently which sometimes does not conform to local culture, beliefs and way of life. We try to be resourceful, independent and self reliant as much as we can and we believe its the most practical thing to do in this period of crisis in many parts of the world. As always we are very vocal in promoting the concepts, ethics and principles of Permaculture Design and Yoga and this is our way connecting to local community. Thru trading, barter and sharing our surplus if there’s any, we are able to actively participate to local economy.
What makes Citrus Grove Cottage unique can be observed in our views and objectives. We are promoting this idea that education, research and development begins at home and not in the school. This led us to establish our own identity as a resilient household, self sufficient and empowered individual.
If you think the same way, please don’t hesitate to meet us, we’d love to share some cup of teas and smoothies with you.
